Abraaj hires de Boer as a Managing Partner

The Abraaj Group has appointed former diplomat and McKinsey Partner Kito de Boer as a Managing Partner. An industry veteran with more than 30-years experience, de Boer will head up Abraaj’s impact investing business and lead the group’s efforts to deploy private capital to address and improve some of the world’s pressing economic and social problems.

De Boer has enjoyed a notable career that’s included roles as both a diplomat and a management consultant. In 2014, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry appointed him to be Head of Mission of the Office of the Quartet in Jerusalem, an institution established by the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia to mobilize assistance for the Palestinians. Once its first representative, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, left in 2015, de Boer assumed overall leadership of the institution.

Prior to this diplomatic role, de Boer had worked at McKinsey & Co. for 29 years, located in London, New Delhi and Dubai. He was one of the initial team of Partners who launched and built the firm’s India practice in the early 1990’s and the firm’s Middle East in 1999. From 2009, he was Head of the Public Policy and Social Sector practice for the EMEA region.

“For us, investing with impact is core to the markets in which we operate,” said Arif Naqvi, Abraaj’s Founder & CEO. “There is a real opportunity for businesses to positively address and deliver on the SDGs, (UN Sustainable Development Goals). Throughout his distinguished career, Kito has demonstrated both a commitment to these aspirations and a professional excellence that matches our own.”

According to the Business and Sustainable Development Commission, the UN Sustainable Development Goals present at least $12 trillion of investable opportunities and could create 380 million new jobs by 2030.
