Abraaj taps Al Lawati as Partner and CIO for MENA

Emerging Markets-focused private equity firm, The Abraaj Group, has promoted Huda Al Lawati to the position of Partner and the firm’s Chief Investment Officer for the Middle East and North Africa region.

Ms. Al Lawati joined Abraaj in 2004 as an analyst, rising to be a Managing Director with responsibilities for the Group’s investments across MENA in the Oil and Gas, Healthcare, Education and Food and Beverage sectors.  Among the notable transactions she has been involved with are the acquisition of Abraaj’s stake in Turkish healthcare group Acibadem, a major food and beverage deal in the GCC, as well as Abraaj’s investments in Kuwait Energy and oilfield services business, Viking International.

In her new role, Ms. Al Lawati will be responsible for originating, executing and monitoring the group’s investments in the region, from helping build a pipeline of new investments to enhancing the value of and collaboration between the group’s partner companies in the region.
