Carlyle taps DPI’s Mohammed as MD for Africa fund

Idris Mohammed, a partner at Development Partners International, has joined The Carlyle Group as a Managing Director on the global alternatives asset manager’s sub-saharan Africa fund team. His position is effective immediately.

In a private equity career lasting more than fifteen years, Mohammed has worked for leading firms in the industry in both the USA and Africa. Starting off as a member of Goldman Sachs’ special situations team in New York, he helped build out a clean energy investing business. He joined Development Partners International for its launch in 2007, initially in London, before moving to Lagos to establish the private equity firm’s office in Nigeria. Whilst at DPI, he has been involved in raising the firm’s two funds, the $270 million African Development Partners I and the $725 million African Development Partners II, as well as leading several acquisitions across the continent.

Mohammed will continue to be based in Lagos and focus on investment opportunities in West and North Africa.
