Further bolstering the firm’s Africa practice, magic circle law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer announced last week that Rob Cant and Gabriel Mpubani are being promoted to the firm’s partnership. Their appointments will be effective on May 1st.
Rob Cant is currently a Senior Associate in the firm’s Middle East and North Africa Corporate practice, based in Dubai. He has a particular focus on advising international and regional private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds and government-related entities on acquisitions, disposals, co-investments, reorganizations and portfolio management in the MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa regions.
Gabriel Mpubani is a Counsel in the firm’s Energy, Transportation and Infrastructure practice, based in London, and served as the Head of the firm’s Africa desk during the two-year period he spent working in Singapore. His specialties include the development and financing for energy, infrastructure and natural resource projects around the world, many of them in Africa, where he represents government, private sponsor and lender clients in these sectors.
Welcoming Cant and Mpubani to the partnership, Shawn der Kinderen commented “There is no doubt that Africa, like many other markets globally faces many significant short-term challenges as well as offering immense opportunities – Rob and Gabriel’s appointment will further strengthen our ability to help our clients deal with these.”
