Government is significant private equity investor in South Africa

Quoting data from a recent KPMG/SAVCA study, some 38.7% of investments made in South Africa’s private equity sector came from government and other state-owned entities, including the Government Employees Pension Fund, the Public Investment Corporation and the Industrial Development Corporation.¬†The amount invested almost exactly matches the investments made by independent private equity fund managers.
