South African law firm Webber Wentzel has persuaded 3 senior M&A lawyers to join its corporate and M&A practice. The move is part of the firm’s strategic move to cement Webber Wentzel’s position as the dominant South African commercial law firm.
Gareth Driver and Huneiza Goolam join Webber Wentzel from Werksmans Attorneys where Driver had headed the Commercial Department and Corporate/M&A practice while Goolam has ben a director on that team for the past eight years. Both will be based in Johannesburg, and start with Webber Wentzel on May 1st.
Adam Ismail, who will join the firm’s Cape Town team, joins Webber Wentzel from ENSafrica, where he had been a partner in the commercial department for over ten years.
The press release announcing the lateral hires quotes Webber Wentzel’s senior partner Christo Els as saying, “We also anticipate that M&A activity in the coming years will focus on the drive by global companies and private equity funds to grow their footprints in Africa. With these additions to our team, we believe that Webber Wentzel will be the best positioned to serve this growing market segment.”
