Atlas Mara’s Board of Directors has appointed the firm’s co-founder Bob Diamond to be the board’s interim Chairman once Arnold Ekpe steps down from the role when his 3-year term ends in early December.
The financial services investment platform has been much in the news of late. Founded in 2013 with the goal of building a major financial services business in sub-Saharan Africa, the firm has acquired significant stakes in banks in seven countries in the region since then. The company is also keen to acquire some of the assets in Barclays’ Africa portfolio and is seeking potential partners to mount a bid.
Ekpe, who is stepping down to “concentrate on his other interests” wished the firm well, saying “It has been a privilege to serve as chairman of Atlas Mara. What the team has achieved in establishing and building Atlas Mara over such a short time is remarkable. I believe the foundation has been laid for the future growth and success of the group.”
