Hurley Doddy, Emerging Capital Partners’ Co-CEO, is taking over as Chair of The African Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (AVCA) from Development Partners International CEO Runa Alam, who is stepping down after four years in the role.
During her tenure, Alam spearheaded the establishment of the Board and the Advisory Council for the industry association, helping to build its credibility and reputation. She was also instrumental in AVCA’s research efforts and attracting the support of veteran industry investors for the industry association.
In the press release announcing the change, Alam is quoted as saying: “It has been a monumental final year as Chair of AVCA, and I am honored to be handing the position over to Hurley Doddy following this month’s Board meeting. Hurley has been a pioneer in the industry since its inception and his experience and knowledge of the continent is invaluable to the association. I look forward to continuing to work with him, Papa, and the rest of the board over the coming years.”
Runa Alam will remain on the board to support Doddy as well as Papa Madiaw Ndiaye, CEO of AFIG Funds and the new Vice Chair of AVCA’s board. She will also act as the lead on AVCA’s planned Sustainability Committee, tasked with promoting the Association’s ESG efforts.
